You know when the government sends you a piece of paper saying how much you’re due in this-or-that benefit? What happens if the government worker subsequently enters one account digit incorrectly? This is.
Another family learned they’d been having money stolen from their accounts, but applied too late for simple recovery.
Argh. I sure feel for all of the people affected by such errors and crimes!
Is it even worth applying for and saving money? Yes! Errors and crimes happening in our bank accounts or credit card statements can be quickly noticed and rectified if we check our transactions at least once a week. (Heck, under most recovery rules, even once a month is better than nothing!)
Make a date with yourself. Every Sunday or on, say, the 17th of every month, make yourself a cup of tea, put three cookies on a saucer, and peruse your accounts. Is everything in there? Any transactions you don’t recognize? Any payments not yet showing? If so, send off a brief email to the merchant or funder and ask for the scoop.
Shortly, I’ll share with you how one follow-up netted me over $200 USD this week!
